As per the instructions i failed but still had an orange to eat.  B >  https://www.foodandwine.com/cooking-techniques/un-messiest-way-peel-orange This version of instructions was much easier and nicer to follow. Instead of using my thumb and cutting into the skin, I just had to score it and then use the handle of a spoon. My thumb was not sore and the orange came out almost near perfect. The instructor took time to show and explain the steps.   The Essay form: Scholarly, Catalogue & Response essays Types of essays: - Argumentative essay (rhetorical mode, persuasion) - show that your position is stronger - Thesis, antithesis, synthesis - Exploration essay (theory, concepts, practice) - Descriptive essay > Ekphrasis (written description, poetic of a work of art or design) - Narrative essay - storytelling (idea of time, events and a temporal element) Reviews - Descriptive & Critique (A textual description on non-linguistic text) Exercise 1: Find an old essay and highlight what is: - Descriptive, narrative, argumentative, expository (research proposal) I was unable to locate an essay of my own as I have come back after 3 years and there was no back up of my old high school essays so Arthi was happy for me to use hers! What trend do I see? Overall there was a descriptive and expository trend throughout the essay. There are links to a narrative when talking about the meaning of the temples/details within them.   The Manifesto & The Speech Manifestos It is where you declare your core values, your vision and goals publicly. It creates direction, focus and purpose It is your subjectivity and engagement within the world. They can be constructed in different ways. Speeches A formal address or discourse delivered to an audience. It can be persuasive, argumentative and factual. Pretty much a manifesto but delivered verbally. Exercise 1: Review a manifesto: An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth It is a list in itself which is like a guide. Each paragraph is a completely new point using persuasive and argumentative points. Some paragraphs/points are followed with emotive language. It is aimed at the audience/everyone. Throughout this manifesto there is a trend - Key point, argument/advocating then potentially an emotive response. While reading the manifesto, it made me feel like I should be doing certain things that I may not want to. I was persuaded at the beginning but as it progressed further...
